Phytochemical Screening Test for Eleven Different Medicinal Plants in and Around Dindigul City

Abstract
In siddha medicine (Tamil medicine) are prepared from mixing of various medicinal plants and plant extracts. The medicinal plants are useful for healing as well as curing of human diseases because of the presence of phytochemical constituents. Medicinal plants are an important source of phytochemical that offers traditional medicine treatment of various ailments. Phytochemicals have two categories primary and secondary constituents. Primary constituents have chlorophyll, proteins, sugar and aminoacids. Secondary constituents contain alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, carbohydrates, saponins, tannins, phenols, steroids and terpinoids. The objective of this research was to test for the presence of phytochemical compounds in medicinal plants, which were collected from in and around Dindigul district. In phytochemical screening test were carried at aqueous and methanolic extract of different plant extract. The Preliminary phytochemical analysis of these extracts showed the presence of many biologically active constituents. These compounds are alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, carbohydrates, saponins, tannins, phenols, steroids and terpinoids.
