Author Name : Sumita Miglani, Dr Aruna N Swami
ABSTRACT Partition- the word at once stimulates the feelings of division. The separation of what? Be it the partisans of boundaries, areas or territories only? No, in fact it was the division of hearts. separation of our country was the great historical event which affected millions of people and changed the whole scenario of the sub-continent. Partition has left unforgettable impact on people’s lives. Partition that was a political device but it was really a division of pious hearts. Literacy and artistic presentations of the partition of India have made a touching portraiture of the brutalities and violence created a result of the divisions of hearts. The separation of India has been described by various authors and writers wrote in an effective manner. PINJAR (1950) is a novel of Pritam, a Sikh woman, who had just not heard of partition but also witnessed it. Amrita Pritam’s PINJAR, is an awakening depiction which depicts man as the tormentor and women as the sufferer. PINJAR, at one glance, of course is the pathetic portrayal of countless anguish, tragedy, trauma, tenderness and hostility but on the other hand this is an interesting saga of awakening of the sufferer’s spirit on all grounds.
