ABSTRACT The polygraph, commonly referred to as a lie detector, has been a contentious tool in law enforcement, employment, and security for many years. It operates under the assumption that physiological responses like heart rate, blood pressure, respiration rate, and galvanic skin response can indicate deception during questioning. The use of polygraphs varies significantly between countries, with varying levels of regulation and acceptance. This paper examines the comparative analysis of polygraph regulation in different nations, with a particular emphasis on the United States and Japan.
