Positive and Negative Impact of Internet Usage on the Academic Performance and Physical Health on Undergraduate Students at Khanpur District Sonipat

ABSTRACT

The current study on “Positive and negative impact of internet usage on the academic performance and physical health on undergraduate students at khanpur district Sonipat'' was planned and carried out assuming that students spent excessive time online, the study will bring out not only the ill effects of excessive use of internet among youngsters but also the using internet for positive purposes such as gaining knowledge and finding useful information. It can help in understanding the demand for internet use in the present scenario. The study aimed to investigate the frequency of internet use among undergraduate students, to examine the positive and negative impact of internet use on the academic performance of undergraduate students and to study the positive and negative Impact of Internet exposure on physical health of undergraduate students. The study is mainly based on primary data. The study was conducted on under graduate’s students in Khanpur district, Sonipat, Sample size of 65 female respondents were selected with the age group between17 to 22 years and convenient sampling was done. 

The study revealed that a high majority of the respondents were using their own personal gadget and they were using mobile phones as their personal gadget as compared to laptops. Among the e- learning apps and websites, only two apps Open Edu and Open -were used always by a greater number of respondents. Majority of the respondents agreed that the internet was providing them with an information platform and was making them more sustainable and advanced, improved their academic performance, helped them in gaining more knowledge and improving their learning capability. More than half of the respondents agreed that it distracts focus from the study and makes them more dependent on the internet for every question and reduces reading habits. More than half of the respondents agreed that they felt dryness and pain in eyes, backache and headache and irritation. A high majority of the respondents agreed that with the use of the internet and web, they discovered academic sites for enhancing their studies, enhanced their academic performance in college and they explored new things.
