ABSTRACT The lemongrass plant (Cymbopogon citratus), which is primarily found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, is the source of lemongrass essential oil. Its characteristic lemon-like smell, primarily due to the presence of citral, is indicated by the prefix lemon. Two stereoisomeric monoterpene aldehydes combine to form citral, with the trans isomer geranial predominating over the cis isomer neral. The world's most deadly insects, mosquitoes are the primary cause of many vector-borne illnesses that affect humans, including Dengue, malaria, Zika virus fever, yellow fever, west Nile fever, and Japanese encephalitis.
