Author Name : Pratheesh. P
ABSTRACT
The Coir Industry is a labour intensive and export oriented industry employing more than seven lakh workers predominantly women. With the expansion of factories, division of labour and labor specialization based on labour diversification takes place. Thus, coir mat weaving sector grew into prominence and major occupation in the industry. The skilled workers in the coir loom section lost their role when mechanization spreads. So Coir Board started training courses for the development of skilled manpower in coir industry. Over the past decades, the coir loom sector in the industry of Kerala has been experiencing solemn problems. However, the situation of the coir loom sector has remained more or less the same except for a few changes.
