Presenting a Critique of Colonial Policies: A Study of Select Native Short Stories
Author Name : Sanjeev Kumar
ABSTRACT: The colonial narratives were designed to degrade the Natives. The whites portrayed the Natives as barbaric savages who were uncivilized and heat made no contribution to the advancement of the human race. The Whites in these biased accounts were portrayed as benevolent people who risked their lives to spread the light of civilization. Civilization also meant the spreading of true faith: Christianity. The Natives have started writing back. Their literature not only presents their world view, but also present a critique of white world view; their rapacious attitude towards environment and earth. This paper is a study of Native short stories.
