Qualitative Study on Pathway of Pollutants in City Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India Using Cluster Analysis
Author Name : Sourabh Sagar, Arvind Kumar Shukla
ABSTRACT
This study focuses to understand the effects of seasonality and meteorology on pathway of pollutants or air parcel that is being introduced into Kanpur city situated in Uttar Pradesh, India from its surrounding locations. The pathway of pollutants that are being travelled in the form of air parcels is being determined with the help of meteorological data that is being obtained from Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory Model (HYSPLIT-4). This meteorological data is then being processed in meteoinfo software in order to obtain 72 hours backward trajectories which are used to make seasonal clusters to perfom cluster analysis. Yearly clusters analysis showed approx 68% of air parcels coming from west and North West region. Except monsoon season where major pollution air parcel is coming from south direction, in all the other seasons namely winter, pre-monsoon and post monsoon the major portion of air pollution parcels are arriving in the city from North and North west direction.
