ABSTRACT
In Ayurveda special emphasisment is made on Ahara (food) as ahara is the foremost among three pillars of life that are Ahara, Nidra (sleep) and Bramhacharya (celibacy) 1. Most of the incurable diseases are produced due to improper food intake 2. The proper usage of food rejuvenates the body and in opposite manner improper usage may lead to toxicity and annihilates life. There are various rules and regulations in Ayurveda regarding the consumption of food in the form of Ahara vidhi visheshaytan, Ahara vidhi Vidhan, Virudha Ahara kalpana etc. Viruddha Aahar is one of the most unique concept introduced by the Ayurveda, as it suggests certain combinations of food that are incompatible in nature and may produce severe consequences in the body. The rising cases of allergies and newer skin diseases are the result of consumption of such incompatible food. According to national health portal, approximately 20% to 30% of total population of India suffer from one at least allergic disease 3. Intercontinental food recipes are mixed and new flavors are created in order to make the food more and tempting. But there are many harmful effects of such combinations on body. The knowledge of such food combinations which may produce an incompatibility reaction in the body can prevent such incidences and are applicable in today’s scenario as well. Through this article relevance of viruddha Ahara concept will be critically analyzed as per recent era and various research studies undertaken in this context will be viewed and inter- relationship between the Viruddha Ahara and the allergens will be presented.
