ABSTRACT Within the construction industry, tunneling stands out with its unique characteristics, particularly in terms of safety. Over time, various methods have been developed to enhance the efficiency and safety of excavation labor. Since their invention six decades ago, tunnel boring machines (TBMs) have undergone significant advancements that make them the preferred method for most tunnel constructions - whether in soft ground or hard rock. In TBMs, cutting tools are mounted on a rotating cutter head which is subject to wear and tear that can be severe when working in harsh and abrasive terrains. Replacing these worn-out tools is a challenging task, especially in pressurized TBMs. To address this issue, this research article focuses on several research papers discussing interventions for TBM cutter head replacements (CHI). These interventions cover different geological conditions such as undersea environments, rocky terrain, soil regions or mixed geology areas using modes like open mode or hyperbaric mode among others.
