Review on Quinoline: Recent Advances in Synthesis and Applications

Author Name : Sangita Kale, Moein Attar, Pallavi Gandigude, Vivek Panchabhai

ABSTRACT

Quinoline has recently become an important heterocyclic compound due to its numerous applications in industrial and synthetic organic chemistry. It is an important scaffold for leads in drug discovery and plays an important role in the field of medicinal chemistry. The traditional methods for synthesis of this heterocyclic skeleton necessitate the use of expensive starting materials and high temperatures. Chemists play a critical role in the development of a more sustainable future by pursuing greener chemical processes. So far, a wide variety of synthesis protocols for the construction of this scaffold have been reported in the literature. For example, Gould-Jacob, Friedlander, P fitzinger, Skraup, Doebner-von Miller, and Conrad-Limpach are well-known classical synthesis protocols that have been used in the past. The majority of this review focuses on and highlights the aforementioned synthesis procedures and findings in order to address the disadvantages of the syntheses and their environmental side effects. Various quinolines and derivatives with potential biological and pharmaceutical activities will also be presented.
