Rise and fall of Nawabs’ Regime In The Carnatic Region – A Study

ABSTRACT
The Rise and Fall of Carnatic Nawabs closely connected with the conquest of Golconda by the Mughal Emperor Aurangazeb in 1687 AD, Zulfiquar Khan’s appointment as the First Nawab of Carnatic, decline of Maratha rule from Vellore, Saadatullah Khan’s accession to throne in 1710 and accession of Doast Ali, Chanda Sahib’s Expedition, Rising power of Nevayaths, murder of Safdar Ali in 1742 AD, Anglo-French diplomacy. Apart from this the paper throws light on the conflict with Raja Pratap Singh (1742 – 1763 AD) and conflict between Muhammed Ali and the British. The reasons behind the outbreak of the Third Carnatic War, the execution of Khan Sahib in 1764 AD, the Expeditions of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan are also presented.
