The eye is often described as the  window of the body.  Diet (Aahara) plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of the eyes. Consumption of Viruddha Aahara  (incompatible food combinations) may contribute to diminished vision or even blindness. Since ancient Vedic times, food has been  regarded as one of the fundamental pillars of life.  Chakshushya Rasayana.
