Role of Parliament in India: Functions, Challenges and the Path to Reforms

ABSTRACT The Parliament of India is the supreme legislative body, and its main function is to make laws for India. This paper focuses on the primary function of the Parliament of India to make laws on subjects under its jurisdiction. The Parliament of India has a significant role to play in the governance of the Indian constitution. This paper reveals the functions of Parliament cover law-making, executive oversight, financial control, constitutional amendments, electoral, and judicial roles. The Parliament of India serves as the supreme legislative organ of the Union government. Functions of Parliament in Indian Constitution include law making, budget approval, executive oversight, constitutional amendments, etc. The members of the parliament can ask questions, move resolutions, and discuss matters of public importance to pressurize the government
