Role of Putapaka in Timira with Special Reference to Myopia

ABSTRACT
Sushruta –the Ayurvedic pioneer is said to be an authority for health & diseases of eyes, has advised a special type of treatment called as ‘Kriyakalpa’ The term ‘Kriyakalpa’ comprises a number of local measures, claimed to be the most efficacious in the management of all the eye diseases. ‘Putapaka’ – a local therapeutic application advocated by Sushruta which is advocated in eye disaese. Timira is one of the grave diseases posing challenge to the eyesight. It disturbs the physiology of visual perception and even terminates in blindness. the kriya kalpa is the basis of the treatment of eye diseases. Ayurveda must, of course be studied first and having learnt it, it should be practiced conscientiously. Only who has mastered both (theoretical and practical aspects) is respected by the King 1. ‘Timira’ is a mirthful opponent of mankind, which distructs the whole of the ophthalmic system or visual phenomenon. It disturbs the physiology of the visual perception and can even terminate in blindness. Many of the clinical features described for timira are having similarities with the refractive errors. Infact, pathophysiology of loss of vision takes its initiation from the stage of timira.
