Author Name : Rajat, Sahil, Sandeep, Gaurav Sharma
ABSTRACT
Recent times the consumption of the vegetables are increasing day by day because people are leaning towards the more nutritious diet then earlier due to increasing diseases and increase in concern about their better heath in developing countries like India. This results in the greater production and productivity of them. One of the method used is called Seed priming because It increases the germination, provides better establishment, helps seed to perform good in the adverse environment which results in the great yield than normal. Various physiological and biological changes occur after seed priming such as change in cell cycle regulation, water content of the seed, reverse mobilization and managing osmotic stress are some of them. This process is affected by various factors such as aeration, light, water, temp, time duration and quality of the seed. Seed priming has various methods such as- halo priming, hydro priming, osmopriming, solid matrix priming, hormonal priming, and biological priming. This makes vigorous and uniform germination of the plants, better performance in the stress condition, uniform flowering. This paper will discuss about its various methods used in different vegetables, affect and benefits of the seed priming.
Keywords: seed priming, various ways of seed priming, impact of the process.
