Siravedha: An Ayurvedic Approch to Pain Relief

INTRODUCTION Pain can be described as any physical or mental suffering or discomfort caused by illness or injury. No matter however mild the pain is anywhere in the body it lands person in state of discomfort and affects day to day activities. Ayurveda being the oldest medical science emphasizedits importance and treatment of pain with both pharmacological and nonpharmacological method. The contribution of Acharya Sushruta in ancient surgery is long lasting. Acharya Sushruta has described Siravedha (a type of Raktamokshana) as Ardha Chikitsa in Shalya Tantra. In such conditions where pain and redness is the main symptom, Siravedha is the treatment of choice for that because it relieves from them immediately. .
