Smart Food Recovery Collecting Assessing and Distributing Surplus Food

ABSTRACT Food waste and hunger are two paradoxical problems that persist on a global scale, with millions of tons of edible food going to waste while many people face food insecurity. This project addresses these issues by developing a Smart Food Recovery System that leverages modern technology to efficiently collect, assess, and distribute surplus food from donors to recipients in need, such as orphanages and underprivileged communities. The system is designed to streamline the process of food recovery, improving upon traditional manual approaches that are slow, inefficient, and prone to food wastage. The Smart Food Recovery System features a mobile application that connects food donors (such as restaurants, hotels, and households) with NGOs responsible for redistributing food to those in need. The app allows donors to post details of available surplus food, which can be instantly seen by nearby NGOs. Upon notification, NGOs can assess the proximity, type, and quantity of the food, and organize a pickup. Real-time GPS tracking ensures that the collection and distribution are performed with optimal efficiency, minimizing delays and reducing the risk of food spoilage.
