Social Political and Economic Difference between Women before and After Manusmriti
Author Name : Manpreet Cour
ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this paper is to focus on the status of women in the light of the Manusmriti. The author does not intend to blindly support or criticise any religious scripture; rather, this is not the author's intention. The purpose of this article is to educate readers about the treatment of women and their subsequent social status in the various religious scriptures. Importantly, it is generally believed that both of the religious scriptures are to blame for the degrading of women's status in society. This viewpoint is not well-grounded in the author's opinion, or at the very least, it does not take into account the comprehensive nature of the discussion of women's rights, status, and social treatment that is found in these scriptures. When we do take a look at the full scope of the discussion, we also find evidence suggesting that the Manusmriti have paid many discussions giving equal importance to man and woman, and even in some specific cases, they recommended giving more respect to women. This is something that we find when we find evidence suggesting that the Manusmriti have paid many discussions giving equal importance to man and woman. In other words, the situation is more complicated than the general criticism that these scriptures give the impression of being would suggest.
