Social Security for Domestic Workers- A Critical Study

INTRODUCTION The increased demand for domestic help in richer industrialized countries provides opportunities for the domestic workers for poorer and less developed countries. As per the ILO convention 189, a domestic worker is a person engaged in domestic chores within an employment relationship. Domestic helpers perform a variety of household services for an individual of a family, from providing care for children and elderly dependents to housekeeping, including cleaning and household maintenance. Other responsibilities may include cooking, laundry and ironing, shopping for food and undertaking other household errands. Mostly women are involved in the domestic work sector since it has been stigmatised as women‟s work
