Solid-State Electrolytes for Safer Lithium-Ion Batteries

ABSTRACT All-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) are widely regarded as a transformative step beyond conventional liquid-electrolyte lithium-ion batteries because they promise intrinsic safety improvements, higher energy density (through enabling Li metal anodes), and simplified packaging. Central to ASSB performance are solid-state electrolytes (SSEs): inorganic oxides (garnets, NASICON/LiSICON, perovskites), sulfides (argyrodites, thio-LISICON), halides, and polymeric or composite electrolytes.
