Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are instrumental in promoting economic growth, attracting foreign direct investment, and driving industrialization, particularly in developing countries. However, questions surrounding their long-term sustainability, environmental impact, and social inclusivity remain critical. This literature review examines the intersection of SEZs and sustainable development, focusing on Sri City SEZ in Andhra Pradesh, India. By synthesizing key themes—including economic performance, environmental sustainability, social equity, gender disparities, governance, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—this review highlights both the achievements and challenges of SEZs in advancing sustainable development.
