Supercritical Fluid Technology for Particle for Engineering in Drug Formulation
Author Name : Kumar Singh, Satinder Kumar
ABSTRACT Supercritical fluid technology has become an invaluable resource in pharmaceutical particle engineering, providing fine-tuning of the various aspects of particle size, shape, and distribution to solve problems related to poor solubility and low bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Supercritical fluid refers to the state of the substance above its critical temperature and pressure. In essence, carbon dioxide is the most used supercritical fluid, and the technologies Rapid Expansion of Supercritical Solutions (RESS), Supercritical Anti Solvent (SAS), and Particles from Gas-Saturated Solutions (PGSS) are combined to produce micronized and nanonized particles that dissolve faster upon administration and provide sufficient release for therapy.
