Supply Chain Management of Dell
Author Name : Aadin Hameed, David Jawahar
ABSTRACT
Michael Dell founded Dell in 1994 while still a student at the University of Texas at Austin. The direct selling approach has been used since the company's inception. Initially, PCs were sold over the phone and were tailored to the needs of the user. After using the retail channel from 1990 to 1994, Dell reverted to direct selling. The firm developed fast in the mid-1990s, eventually becoming the number one PC seller in the United States and the number two globally in 1999.Dell's prosperity extended in the years after, but it was unable to avoid the PC industry's crisis in the new century. Dell's growth rate slowed, causing its stock price to drop. Dell, on the other hand, has remained a highly successful corporation throughout time, and its growth rate has consistently outperformed the industry as a whole. This paper provides an overall view of supply chain of Dell.
