Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Some Benzo-Pyran , Benzo-Furan Derivatives : A Review

ABSTRACT

Benzo-furan and Benzo-pyran are the oxygen containing heterocyclic compounds that contains furan and pyran rings fused with the benzene and are the part of many natural products. In addition to these compounds naphthalene derivatives of pyran and furans have attracted more attention of organic chemists, as they possess fascinating bactericidal and antimicrobial properties. Apart from these properties they also have wide spectrum of biological activities like anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral etc. This review focuses on the synthesis of many such derivatives and also their biological evaluation. The recent development in this field is also described in this review. At the end of this review the future scope for this field is also stated.
