ABSTRACT Two new copper (II) complexes of 2-benzoylpyridine-based hydrazones were synthesized and characterized using elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV–Vis spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. The hydrazones exhibited amido-iminol tautomerism, enabling them to function as tridentate NNO donors by coordinating through the pyridyl nitrogen, azomethine nitrogen, and amido/iminolate oxygen atoms in the complexes. Electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements suggested an octahedral geometry for the Cu (II) complex. The infrared spectra confirmed the coordination of the hydrazones to the metal centres through the azomethine nitrogen and deprotonated phenolic oxygen atoms..
