The Dark Side of Human Nature in Joseph Cornad’s Heart of Darkness

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to analyse the dark side of human nature through the characters in the novella   The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. It is classified under African literature. The theme of the story is about the voyage of Marlow on Congo river into the congo free state which is in the heart of Africa. Marlow, the narrator, tells his story to friends while he is on the River Thames. Marlow takes a job as a riverboat captain with the Belgian concern company that has trade with the Congo. As he travels to Africa he discovers that those who live in Congo lack human values like love, care, humanity etc. Through The Heart of Darkness author highlights the value human nature. The narrative skills and literary devices add beauty to the work.
