The Idea of Universal Religion According to Swami Vivekananda
Author Name : Dr. K. RAJESH KUMAR
ABSTRACT
One of the influential forces that shaped the human ideology and view of life is Religion. Every religion of the world is a result of spiritual and philosophical advancements of human thinking. India being “the land of religions” contributed a lot in this regard. The highest philosophical ideas from the ancient Vedic Ṛṣis to modern time Rāmākṛṣṇa paramahamsa shaped the Indian philosophical system into a concrete philosophy. Swami Vivekananda the beloved disciple of Śrī Rāmākṛṣṇa Paramahamsa redefined religion and emphasized more on practical Vedāntic realization rather theoretical teachings. He established the Advaita Vedānta as the Magna Carta of Indian philosophy. He not only talks religion but also about the Indian problems like poverty and illiteracy. The notions of religion changes from geographical and historical perspectives and from time to time. The intellectual interpretations ofSwami reestablished the religion of Vedanta.
My paper will analyze the contribution of Swami Vivekananda to the Practical Vedānta and how he synthesizes all religions of the world. The best idea given by his master Śrī Rāmākṛṣṇa paramahamsa that “all religions are true” had been spread throughout the globe by his disciple Swami Vivekananda. In today's 21st century world we need peaceful and Universal religion which will be accepted by everybody and that which includes everybody not excluding anybody. Religion must help every human being to realize one’s infinite potential.
