The Impact of Social Media on Gender Representation and Identity Formation
Author Name : Pankaj Kumar
ABSTRACT Social media has become an integral part of modern life, shaping the way we interact, communicate, and represent ourselves. This study examines the impact of social media on gender representation and identity formation, exploring how social media platforms influence and reflect societal attitudes towards gender.Through a mixedmethods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data, this research investigates how social media represents and reinforces traditional gender norms, stereotypes, and power dynamics. The study also explores how social media can be used as a tool for resistance, subversion, and redefinition of gender norms. The findings suggest that social media platforms perpetuate and amplify existing gender inequalities, with women and non-binary individuals facing online harassment, objectification, and marginalization. However, the study also reveals that social media can be a powerful platform for feminist activism, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and counter-narratives that challenge dominant gender norms
