The Indian War of Independence (1857) and the Rise of Indian Nationalism

The Revolt of 1857 integrated the Indian people of diverseracial, religious, and societal backgrounds in opposition to British rule.The supremacyof the East India Company concluded owing to the insurgence. Historiansworldwide have offered varied interpretations of this historic occurrence.It became the greatest fight against colonialism. According to historianTony Ballantyne, it became very clear to most British that the rebellion represented the failure to understand the native mind.Subsequently, the East India Company stifled the insurrection with completevigor. A freshsegment of Indian history commenced after 1857.This paper purposes to commemorate the First War of Indian Independence. It proposes to revisit the event and trace how the seeds of nationalism were sown in the minds of the Indian people.
