ABSTRACT The high rate of digitalisation in education has drastically changed the means through which students can access, assess and use information to conduct research in their academics. Digital literacy in this case has become a competency of core competency in the training of effective research skills in students. The thesis presented looks at how digital literacy programs have been incorporated in higher learning institutions and how they have contributed to improvement of research skills among students. The research question is how organized digital literacy programs affect students in finding credible sources, critically assessing digital information, engaging in ethical research practices and generating research outputs that are scholarly.
