ABSTRACT

Brahmacharya, a fundamental principle in Ayurveda and traditional Indian philosophy, promotes self-discipline, moderationand celibacy as essential practices for attaining physical, mentaland spiritual well-being. Rooted in ancient wisdom, Brahmacharya is believed to play a crucial role in preserving vital energy (ojas), which is considered the essence of vitality, strengthand immunity. This conserved energy is thought to enhance cognitive function, improve emotional stabilityand contribute to overall longevity. The practice of Brahmacharya extends beyond celibacy and encompasses mindful living, balanced diet, controlled speechand disciplined thoughts. It fosters mental clarity, enhances focus, and reduces stress, ultimately leading to a harmonious life. Scientific studies suggest that self-restraint and disciplined habits positively influence brain function, hormone regulationand emotional resilience. By avoiding excessive indulgence and cultivating self-control, individuals can prevent various lifestyle disorders, including anxiety, depressionand metabolic imbalances. Ayurvedic texts emphasize that Brahmacharya is essential for sustaining a sattvic (pure) mind and body, which enhances spiritual growth and inner peace. In modern life, adapting Brahmacharya through mindful practices such as meditation, yogaand ethical living can significantly contribute to holistic health. This review explores classical references, scientific perspectives, and practical applications of Brahmacharya in daily life. By integrating this principle, individuals can achieve a state of balance and vitality, ultimately leading to a healthier and more fulfilling life.
