ABSTRACT This paperexamines the profound socio-economic challenges resulting from India’s "compressed" demographic transition. As fertility rates drop below replacement levels and life expectancy rises, India faces a unique "developing country paradox," characterized by a population that is "getting old before getting rich". Utilizing data from the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) Wave 1, the research focuses on three critical structural vulnerabilities:
