ABSTRACT

Turmeric, a member of the Zingiberaceae family, is one of the most beneficial herbal medicines. Numerous studies have demonstrated that curcumin is the primary cause of the majority of the turmeric's beneficial effects. It benefits ailments like inflammation, ulcers, and cancer because to its beneficial antioxidant effects. Additionally, it has hepatoprotective, renal, and antibacterial effects. As a result, it may be effective in treating many forms of cancer, diabetes, allergies, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, and other chronic and difficult to treat conditions. A succinct synthesis of the most recent and available information regarding the effects of curcumin was the goal of this review. The most recent turmeric research publications were looked up in international citation indexes like Google Scholar, Science Citation Index, and PubMed/Medline. Recent research has validated the effectiveness of turmeric in treating a variety of illnesses, particularly those brought on by oxidative stress, including cancer, diabetes mellitus, and inflammatory conditions. To combat AIDS, it is also utilized as an anti-HIV, anticoagulant, hepatoprotective, and nephroprotective drug. As a spice, curcumin shows excellent potential as a medication. It is remarkably non-toxic. too. Development of contemporary pharmaceuticals from turmeric should be focused for the control of various ailments since the worldwide scenario is currently shifting toward the usage of non-toxic plant items with traditional therapeutic uses. In order to investigate the untapped potential of turmeric and its real-world clinical uses that can benefit humanity, more research must be done on the spice.
