Understanding William Wordsworth's Theory of Poetic Diction: An Analysis

ABSTRACT
William Wordsworth's theory of poetic diction is a critical document of much significance. In this research paper the researcher will try to understand Wordsworth's theory of Poetic Diction and to find out it's significance. In the preface Wordsworth's choice of rustic themes, rustic language is significant. In fact, Wordsworth's theory is a manifesto of a new romantic poetry. It was S.T.Coleridge who considered Wordsworth's theory of poetic diction and became the first one to pounce upon it. It is regarded as a landmark in the history of criticism. The romantic era of poetry in England started with the publication of Wordsworth's ‘Preface' in 1778.
