Validity of Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) in Marathi speaking Healthy Older Adults

ABSTRACT
Background - MoCA was designed to detect mild cognitive impairment. It is a brief and easy screening tool. We tested its validity for use in Marathi speaking healthy older adults.
Materials and Methods – We used a translated MoCA 7.1 Marathi version among 30 Marathi speaking older adults of India. A purposive sample of 30 as a pilot study were taken, test administered and analyzed.
Results - The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) -Marathi showed good internal consistency (Pearson’s Correlation =0.688, Reliability = 0.8156) and reliability of MoCa Scale for 7 parameter showed Correlation ‘r’ = 0.829, p-value = 0.9065, Result = 0.0001, S and hence tool is reliable and valid.
Conclusion – Marathi translated version of MoCA is a valid and reliable tool for early screening and potential future interventions for cognitive impairment.
