ABSTRACT The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) represents a vast and holistic intellectual tradition rooted in centuries of philosophical, scientific, and cultural inquiry. This paper explores the relevance, contributions, and modern applications of IKS in higher education, particularly through the lens of Vedic Mathematics. IKS integrates ethics, sustainability, and spirituality with practical disciplines like mathematics, astronomy, medicine, linguistics, and architecture. Vedic Mathematics, derived from ancient texts and rediscovered in the 20th century, offers intuitive, efficient methods for complex calculations and demonstrates deep structural and logical coherence. The paper delves into contemporary research applying Vedic principles to fields like calculus, chess strategy, and image processing. Furthermore, it discusses the University Grants Commission's initiative to integrate IKS into modern curricula, emphasizing its potential to foster innovation, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary research. By revisiting and revitalizing IKS, we can bridge traditional wisdom with contemporary science and technology, fostering a more inclusive, innovative, and culturally grounded educational framework.
