Viewpoint of William H. Sheldon Regarding Somatotype Personality through the Perspectives of Constitutional Psychology

Author Name : Dipak Chowdhury

ABSTRACT

The constitutional perspective, which examines the relationship between the structure of the human body and behavior, seeks to answer this question (Genovese, 2008). The first comprehensive system of constitutional psychology was proposed by American psychologist William H. Sheldon (1940, 1942). He believed that your body type can be linked to your personality. This paper studies how Somatotype describes the momentary morphological state of an individual. Different somatotypes have different morphological predispositions to physical activity and their reactions to physical activity are different, too. To a certain extent, according to the morphenotype, we can predict the level of motor performance since the child's lower school age. The hypothesis that somatotype is closely related to social skills and that the response of patients with social disability to social skills training might also relate to these genetically controlled factors has been supported. Ectomorphs used less non‐verbal communication and endomorphs were more restless. Women used fewer gestures but their speech was less hesitant than men. Social skills training benefited the shorter, plumper physique more than the linear ectomorph and, to some extent, and independently, the older subjects. The constitutional perspective, which examines the relationship between the structure of the human body and behavior, seeks to answer this question (Genovese, 2008). The first comprehensive system of constitutional psychology was proposed by American psychologist William H. Sheldon (1940, 1942). He believed that your body type can be linked to your personality, which has been discussed in this particular paper.
