ABSTRACT The article analyses the recent events in terms of international law, which prohibits a country from using force against another unless it is for exercising the right of private defence or with the permission of the UN Security Council. The United States is justifying its actions based on self-defence, protection of allies, the killing of innocent Iranian citizens by their own government and other humanitarian reasons. However, this study provides a deep insight into the justification claimed by the United States of America that they are weak because there was no evidence that Iran was preparing for war against the US. The article also highlights the effects of the war on the international community. Various media reports are claiming that many civilian areas are being damaged, such as hospitals, schools and homes, which are violating IHL rules requiring protection of non-combatants. It discusses how conflicts weaken the global legal systems and raise the risk of an increase in nuclear weapons in the name of deterrence.
