ABSTRACT

Wind energy applications develops much more rapidly than the other renewable resources. Since many years wind is been utilized as a source of power.  As wind energy is renewable energy it is used in many applications and it is more sustainable. Wind energy has very small impact on our surrounding environment than non-renewable energy sources. Wind power plants can generate electrical energy at fastest rate and wind energy is most promising renewable energy. Wind energy conversion has become very reliable.Wind’s kinetic energy is converted to electrical energy through wind turbine and generator. In this paper, MATLAB simulations of a Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) with Permanent Magnet synchronous Generator (PMSG) and variable-speed wind turbine are discussed and also the variations in rotor speed with respect to wind speed are also discussed. The turbine is connected to electrical generator which is PMSG. The AC voltage which is produced, is converted to DC and stored in a capacitor. PWM inverter, which is connected to the capacitor converts the DC back to AC. Necessary controlling action is applied on the inverter so that the load voltage remains constant. In this paper, hysteresis current controller which works with PWM technique is used for controlling action on inverter.
