Women in Indian Family: A Study of Selected Works of Manju Kapur

Author Name : Ku Priyanka, Mr Parveen Kumar

ABSTRACT

Manju Kapur writes to bring attention to the plight of an Indian woman who seems to be free but is actually exploited and unhappy. No one cares about who she is as a person. In her books, the main characters are always trying to be as good as men. The difference between men and women in Indian society is the main theme of her books. They never give up when things get hard because they know what they are capable of. Manju Kapur has given her female characters the traits of absolute rebels who don't give in no matter what. All of her female characters are ahead of the curve in almost every way, whether it's their education, how they spend their free time, who they choose to be with, or even if they have affairs outside of marriage. Manju Kapur has shown that her main characters are only rebellious when they are treated like slaves or second-sex. She told them to speak up loudly to get their own space. Manju Kapur looks into the lives of women in a society where men are in charge and shows how hard it is for them to get out of their situation. In Home, the characters from three different generations struggle to stay alive. They work hard to go against the rules of such a society and make a name for themselves.

Key words: Manju Kapur, women, society and female characters
