Zener Diode: Theory, Applications, and Advancements

ABSTRACT An effort has been made to describe the function of the Zener diode and its use in electronics in this paper. The Zener diode operates in the reverse breakdown region and operates on the Zener breakdown principle. High current flow through the diode causes a high-power dissipation in the reverse breakdown zone. There are numerous uses for Zener diodes. Zener diodes are semiconductor devices widely utilized in electronic circuits for voltage regulation, voltage reference, and protection applications. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the theory, characteristics, and applications of Zener diodes. We delve into the underlying physics and operating principles governing the behavior of Zener diodes, elucidating their unique ability to maintain a nearly constant voltage across their terminals over a wide range of current variations. This paper provides a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of Zener diodes, offering valuable insights for researchers, engineers, and practitioners working in the fields of electronics, power systems, and renewable energy.
